Lighten up Edinburgh 'fans'

Postby broken leg guy on Sat Nov 10, 2012 3:38 am

Ok this season is not going well. We know this. This forum seems to be a one stop shop for the cretinous auld farts who seem to think we should win every game.
Get a grip and FFS cheer up, and support the team instead of writing them off at every turn, god knows they could use it right now.
Also if you are one of the greeting faced, brigade, always wanting the next disaster to occur so you can revel in how right you were, please feel free to FRO, you wont be missed.

Let's not get into another realism vs negativity debate, I've not seen one that's got us anywhere yet and they invariably end up degenerating into slanging matches.

Wow, turns out you can get really drunk for not a lot of money in Cowdenbeath haha  Plus its my first night back home so cut me some slack :P

Perhaps in the cold light of day (with a stinking hangover) i can put it a bit more succinctly, but i do sometimes think some on here are happy when we loose so they have the chance to whinge about it.

I have been watching the Edinburgh District since I was a nipper in the 70s. I have paid good money to watch these guys in every Celtic venue and various Heineken ones over the years. I have been wittering away online about the experience for 9 or 10 years now. In the past, we were often just not good enough to compete effectively. I could accept that.

It is different this season. We have the resource we need to be successful and a sensible regime in power at the SRU who are doing the right things. The supporter base is growing. But we are not delivering. It is simply not good enough. I do not think the current coaching regime have a future here. For me, the only question is whether they go now or at the end of the season.

I have never been angrier. I do not think that is unreasonable.

The key point as Martin says, is that this year the investment we've been begging for has been made. In the past we did not have the budget and the players to compete. Sometimes the players were less than the sum of their parts, sometimes we did better than we should, but there was always the nagging feeling that Edinburgh were underfunded to play with the big boys and we were clinging to their coat tails.

This year, the investment is there. We appear to have a player budget as big as or bigger than many in the Rabo. But we've gone backwards. I think a few of the signings who've not performed well will improve as they settle in and adjust, but having said that, the investment just is not making the difference it should.

I feel a golden opportunity for the club to step up a level has been squandered.

As John Cleese once said, 'It's not the despair, I can cope with that, it's the hope I can't stand'.

An issue for me is that some of our current more senior players simply have not stood up for us so far this season, Ford, Cross, Denton, Rennie, Talei, Laidlaw, Jones to name just a few. A big month ahead with Ospreys, Connacht & Racing home and away. Hopefully things can get put right very soon.
