I think George Taylor has a lot of potential, Chris Dean too, but for me Taylor has looked the more likely to get to Scott's standard.

He'll certainly get his chance now.

Really gutted by this and unless there is someone of Scott’s calibre already signed then I think we are goin* to be a weakened side next season. Scott was integral to that backline, when he played Edinburgh played. Bennett’s early season form due to Scott’s poise, vision and running lines. Came off the bench in the1872 cup game and swung the game in our favour and overall was a far better player than what left for Gloucester.
Always trusted in Cockers judgement but this one does baffle me.
On the up side, a little trip to Welford Road, whenever we kick off again, and the savouring thought of a Scott Tuilagi centre partnership

Gutted to lose Scott.

Think we need to be mindful that he'd likely have been a top earner he's had numerous issues with injuries and particularly with the head knock concerns. Perhaps Cockers judged the risks outweighed the pluses when it came to allocating his playing budget.

Taylor looks a real class player and Dean is a very good backup. Feel we will need to see some of the money saved by Hickey and Scott going injected into putting a bit of x-factor into that 10-12 axis though.

Bound to be a number of factors in ER making an offer or not but with scott and Barclay departing and hickey likely to be off that must be quite a bit of savings and with Mata almost certain to be off end of next season, although who knows what the rugby market will look like in a years time, should leave us in a pretty strong position for retaining the majority due ooc next season.

Disappointed to see Scott go he has looked really good when fit but I also think taylor and dean are both quality 12s

As good a club player as he is, Chris Dean is not a Matt Scott and unfortunately never will reach those heights, George Taylor is still learning his trade and certainly has the potential to reach those heights but he needs to learn from the likes of Scott. Unless Duncan Taylor is heading in our direction for the next year, then I honestly do think we are going to be significantly weakened by Scott’s departure

Before his run of injuries, ie about three years ago or so, I'd have taken Duncan Taylor over any other centre not called SBW, Smith or Nonu.

If he can get that form and pace back he would be a great signing, but as far as I can see he is struggling for pace and the talk of him leaving Saracens is little more than talk at the moment.

Everyone he has played with seems to say he is the best they have played with, so I'd still welcome him, but his fitness is very much in doubt.

Matt Scott situation.

If there is no new signing on the cards, surely it would make pragmatic sense for Huw Jones or Stafford McDowallto be transferred to Edinburgh, Glasgow are well served at centre & its not really worked for Jones at Glasgow/McDowall needs games.

I know some people dislike shuffling players between pro teams but McDowell really would make a lot of sense.

Im not sure it does to be honest. Glasgow are likely to "lose" Jones this summer and Horne and Grigg seem to be on the wane.

I don't think Mcdowell is better than George Taylor so would rather he got the gametime. Taylor has done a very good impression of Matt Scott recently so hopefully he continues to improve, he is very similar to when Scott first emerged, although probably more physical.

If Duncan Taylor was available and within budget I would take him now. I think he will get back to a decent standard, much like Scott did after his concussion issues.

I'd take him because he's a swiss army knife of a player. During international windows, we can bring him into the XV; but we can do it at full-back and allow Damo to play on the wing. We could also put Duncan Taylor in the 23 shirt when we have our first-choice backline all playing; he can comfortably slot into every position from 11-15 inclusive. I think he's the kind of player Cockerill might like.

Edinburgh Rugby have today confirmed that nine members of the squad will leave the club at the end of the 2019-20 season.

Centre Matt Scott – whose departure to join Leicester Tigers was confirmed yesterday – has featured in 20 games in two years since returning to the capital from Gloucester in 2018, and will make the move Welford road at the end of the season.

Fellow internationalist John Barclay – whose departure was confirmed by Head Coach Richard Cockerill last week - joins Scott in leaving at the end of his current contract. The back-row has so far made 14 appearances in two seasons at BT Murrayfield, scoring one try in that period.

Club centurion Dougie Fife is another who moves on at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. The back-three specialist – who returned to Edinburgh in 2017 following a season with Scotland Sevens – has so far earned 125 caps for the capital side.

Stand-off Simon Hickey leaves following two seasons in Edinburgh. The New Zealander – who joined the club from Bordeaux-Bègles in 2018 – has so far scored 186 points in 34 points in the No. 10 jersey.

Hooker Cammy Fenton is another who departs the club at the end of his current deal. Fenton – who signed with capital team in 2017 – has so far made 19 appearances during his three seasons at BT Murrayfield.

Second-row duo Stan South and Sam Thomson also leave at the end of the current campaign.

South – who joined the club on a short-term loan in February – returns to Exeter Chiefs having so far made one appearance. Thomson moves on having so far made eight appearances for the capital club.

Stand-off Jason Baggott is another who departs at the end of his current deal, with the South African’s sole appearance for the club coming against Munster in November 2018.

Finally, with his departure to French club Brive confirmed in March, Italian international prop Pietro Ceccarelli also leaves at the end of 2019-20. Ceccarelli has so far made 24 appearances in two seasons at BT Murrayfield.

On the players’ departure, Head Coach Richard Cockerill, said: “This period of the season is never easy for players – even more so in these unusual times – but all move on with our upmost respect for their hard work and commitment during their time at Edinburgh.

“These guys all leave having given their all to the club and that’s all we can ever ask. It’s been a pleasure to coach them and we thank them for their professionalism and attitude.

“We wish all our leavers the best of luck in their future ambitions.”
