Really need a win and with neither team in great form not expecting a classic.

Hopefully we see some of the younger players given a chance for this.

Could be, but Pyrgos is fit and selected behind Shiel, so there is some faith being placed in the young guys

He's described as injured in the article on the website. Could leave Scotland short of cover at 10 next week as Hastings is banned - possible call-up for Weir?

Won’t be Weir - he’s crocked and out (I think) for the rest of the season.

Next up would be James Lang, probably?

Maybe a better option for the bench than JVDW anyway as he can cover centre too.

Pretty decent team all things considered.

I would have preferred Bennet to start, but no issue with the rest. Huge opportunity for Chamberlain to lay down a marker here, not just in terms of VDW but also as Thomson has been getting a lot of plaudits across the road, he needs to prove he can perform too.

The pack should be able to give him parity at least so this is as good a game as any.

I imagine there will be less game management from Shiel happening than he would get from Pyrgos and Groom as well, so he should get more of a chance to impose himself.

I was about to post similar when I read this. IN previous games he has imho been nursed too much and could not play his own game. Glasgow on the other hand effectively told Thompson to go out and play. Hopefully this pairing have been given the freedom to play their own game, and I think will be better for it.

A lot of youngsters picked for Glasgow as well. Exciting times for Scottish rugby.
