Good point. Wonder how much of his deal is covered by “ Scotland” in the budget line and the balance allocated to club budget? All central contracts of course which is how Skinner , Ritchie, Kinghorn and Lang et can be affordable affordable and can compete with the salary cap in the Premiership. Schoeman impresses as someone who is motivated beyond the mercenary, and all things being equal is very committed to Edinburgh club environment and life in Scotland. That said , needs to work with the team on reducing our penalty count at key moments.

I like the signing of Skinner - he will bring a professionalism, a hard edge and a winning mentality (perhaps not this year!) from his time at Exeter that we need in the pack. As well as being a top class player he will also be a strong leader and role model for our promising younger guys. Like Lang an astute signing.

Signing of Skinner is indeed fantastic although like Lang’s move it will be a v expensive one. No doubt he will prove his value and interesting to ponder on the undoubted edge he would have brought to the Wasps match last week . Best acquisition this year by a mile has been Bofffeli on so many dimensions . His world class chase and fielding of the highball , his ability to support and read play , beat defenders , not to mention his goal incredible kicking range . Stats show that he has also played more game minutes this season than any other player and that is after a full summer of International Rugby with Argentina . Truly Outstanding!!

The only problem with this is that Arundell is SQ!

Mentioned here: https://www.rugbypass.com/news/watch-te ... to-toulon/

There's a mention in the English Times today that both Scotland and Wales ( qualified via another grandparent IIRC ) have been in touch with Arundell about going on their summer tours. Sadly no glint of hope he won't go down the England route . . . :(

Arundell has been named int eh England squad, unsurprisingly.

Dingwall has too, there might have been a chance with him, any way, it's done.

Is it correct that Marshall Sykes is available for Saturday?

From TOL

Blair also confirmed that centre James Lang, No 8 Ben Muncaster and second-row Marshall Sykes are back in the selection mix this weekend after recovering from injury. “We are not too sure about Glen Young,” he added.

Although it was originally reported that he'd miss the 1872 game unless we had gotten to the Challenge Cup semi final.

I assume (hope) they've done their homework on this.

Exactly,thanks.
This suggests he (Sykes) was in fact able to reduce his ban by a week by doing the WR "course" (though the hearing reported decision made no mention of this option whereas they usually do if its on offer.
Not complaining obviously and (I presume) Edinburgh have done their homework on this!

Was there not super6 matches last week, they possibly could have counted as a match missed as well.

Dingwall has been called up to the squad a few times and hasn't been capped. Al that means is he isn't going o Argentina.

Dingwall has never really impressed me to be honest - we have far better options available. Arundel however looks a top player with that something different about his game. No doubt Eddie Jones will knock that out of him and he will end up kicking everything away instead of running with the ball - a running 15 is not allowed in Eddie's England teams!

Dingwall is an impressive player but no better than the options we already have at our disposal in that position.Arundel is catching the eye with his spectacular tries and breaks but defences will be more organised in covering him in time and again is he better than Darcy Graham or Rufus Maclean?

On a less speculative note , great to see Chris Dean re-sign . He has been in top form of late and his comments on “ reinvigorating his love for the game “ would suggest that for whatever reason he had fallen out of love with it ! That would have been a pity for a player whose contribution to play often flies under the radar and is now flourishing in the Blair environment. Good News.

While I dont think Dingwall is world class, he is a very good player and he woudl certainly deepen our pool of talent and has potential to win a lo f caps. Redpath has looked brilliant for Scotland but Im not sure he has done more for Bath than Dingwall has for Saints, so he woudl be a good adition. Its a bit odd how little we have used Hutchinson, he looks very good and this season at least we have scraped the barrel a bit in the centre. Im not a huge fan of Tuipolotu (watch him score a ahtrick against us now!) so I think eiher Dingwall or Hutch would add more quality. Different player type i know etc etc.

Dean re-signing is very good news, he has been very effective this season and good to have around. I still think he is second choice 12 but he is a very solid option. With Hutchison and Currie developing nicely we have a good blend in there of styles and experience.
