Dont know a huge amount about him. Although Wales are hardly coming down with quality props either and if they havent picked him, Im not sure he will add a huge amount to Scotland/Edinburgh. Happy to be proved wrong though.

Which props do we have out of contract? Im guessing Sebastien and Rae will be?

Jamie Hodgson off to Bristol on loan. Hope this isn’t a precursor to a summer move away.

We are a bit overstocked in Second row with all of Gilchrist, Skinner, Sykes, Young and Hodgson capped perhaps £ needs saved for elsewhere.

Shame i rate Hodgson he was ahead of Sykes previosuly but has not kicked on mostly due to injury, would rather keep him but if budget does not allow could be a few tough decisions for management ahead.

Hodgson should also want to start rugby matches. He's fifth choice here, 26 years old, he won't take over from GG, Skinner, and Young and has Sykes, Carmichael, McVie as the coming men.

Good on him, go and make a career elsewhere.

Cheery off, no surprise.
Young Bok scrum half coming in is the plan. what that means for Shiel or Price or academy 9s who knows

Duhan re-signed until 2027.

Great player, but we need to get the best out of him. Wont be coming cheap and we still have issues with the backs ability to get the ball to the back 3 other than firing it out to them as quickly as possible.

It probably leaves Shiel where he has been for the past few years, which is 3rd choice. I do like him as a player, but unfortunately I dont think he has grabbed the chances he has had to move up the pecking order.

No idea how good the Saffer is though.

Good for national team through to RWC as he won't be flogged in prem or top14.

Good for Edinburgh only if we can use him (and darcy) better as you note. There is also the opportunity cost as it is likely budget tied up in him means others move on and it may be players that contribute more at present as the game plan (if there is a plan) allows. Have to get value for edinburgh out of he £ tied up in our back three.

Duhan signing on for another couple of years is a top piece of business for Embra and SRU. Every club has to balance its squad between top earners and good club professionals and Duhan is defo a top signing for us. Yes, he has his quieter games for Embra but he still remains a threat and scares the living out of opposition teams. Often teams set up to defend against him and this can draw defenses in and open up space for other players. I'm happy that we've spent our dosh on him rather than a foreign import who may be a bit hit or miss, as we have found out in the past. Unless there was another Big Bill Mata available then lets be happy we have the Big Man with us for another couple of years, lets just make sure we get him the ball quicker and more often!

Absolutely agree with that, but it also needs DVDM to be willing to go looking for the ball a lot more.

From the BBC website at 21:08
Edinburgh's attacking intent was there for all to see in that first half, even if it didn't always come off.

However, in stark contrast to Darcy Graham on the opposite flank, Duhan van der Merwe was hardly involved in the opening 40 minutes.

Do Edinburgh need to get the ball in his hands more, or is it about him coming off his flank?

Either way, if his shiny new contract is to be value for money, Edinburgh need to get more out of the Scotland winger.

Some news on Boffelli

Everitt also provided an update on Emiliano Boffelli‘s long-awaited return to fitness, with the Argentinean back-three man having been out of action since last April, during which time he has twice undergone surgery on a back issue.

“All I know is that he’s got through some really good running blocks, which is positive for us,” said Everitt. “It’s week by week for him, but we are hoping to be able to be available at the end of February.
